The Wedding Ceremony

The wedding and reception will be held at 5:00 at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. This is Matthew's Greek family's church, where most of the major events in their lives have taken place. Matthew was baptized here and his parents were also married here on the Sunday September 6...also Labor Day weekend!

Please dress appropriately for a church wedding.

The reception and dinner will take place in the church's cultural center. Bring your dancing shoes!

Travel

It's easy to fly into one of two airports: Flint-Bishop (FNT) or Detroit Wayne (DTW).

We recommend you have a vechicle for your stay in the Motor City. There's plenty of parking at the hotel, and it will give you a chance to explore the area. If you choose to Lyft, Uber, or taxi from the airport, expect a one-way cost in the $80 range

Activities

Matthew's family lives scattered around the metro Detroit area, so we have a few ideas of places to go and some things to do!

Events

On Thursday, August 31 at 7:00 PM, the wedding party is going to watch some football! Matthew's cousin, Robert Karagosian, is coaching the Lamphere High School Rams at home against Lincoln. Go Rob!

Matthew's Aunt Louise Smela is celebrating her 80th birthday with her whole family on Saturday, Sept 2 from 2:00-8:00 PM. That includes you! Please write us for the address if you need it. Happy Birthday, Aunt Lu!

Also Saturday night, we are hosting a casual gathering at the Pontiac Leo's Coney Island. The "Coney Island" restaurant is a Michigan staple that typically serves Greek diner style comfort food, and most importantly, coney island hotdogs! (they're special chili dogs) Leo's is situated directly across from the hotel, so it's an easy walk for any out of towners staying with us. We'll have dinner, snacks, & desserts available from 7:30 until they close at 10. Come and go as you can, and we hope to see you there!

Afterward, we'll probably mosey back over and take advantage of the Marriott's bar.

For that matter, the restaurant at the Marriott will be a great place to visit with us and our guests. Breakfast is included for those lodging on our block, so maybe make some plans to meet up at Woodward's!

Sights & Sounds

Just down the road from the church are the Cranbrook Institues. There are science & art museums, a planetarium, gardens & more to visit.

The Detroit Tigers are in town all weekend, playing Cleveland & Kansas City. Comerica Park was one of the first of the new-age baseball stadiums, and it's still a gem.

The Greektown Casino is a perennial favorite in Detroit.

It's a ways up the road from Bloomfield Hills, but Cook's Farm Dairy & Creamery still makes the best ice cream around and is open until 8:00. You can visit and feed the cows while you're there, so don't wear your wedding shoes!
